Two by Two and
Two by Three programs
What does a
typical camp day include?

Zoo walk, which sometimes includes Zoo
attractions (tram or carousel ride, petting zoo, or special
tours)

Classroom lessons with pictures and
biofacts (bones, pelts, feathers, etc.) and animal contact with
some of our small, education animals

Games and activities that reinforce the
concepts being taught that day

Who will be
my child’s group leader? Our Camp Educators must have at least
one year of college. They undergo a two week training program that
includes CPR and First-aid training as well as a criminal background
check. They enjoy working with children and are knowledgeable about
the Louisville Zoo.
How many
campers will be in a group? Each group has one Camp Educator per
eight campers. (No more than nine.) Some groups will have teen
volunteers (ages 13 and up) that assist Camp Educators.
Can I have my
child in a group with a friend or sibling? If your child is
attending camp the same week as a friend, you MUST indicate on your
registration form that they want to be placed in a group together.
We do not place siblings together unless they are the same age and
there is a request.
Can I
register my child in a higher age group camp? No. We have
different themes for different age groups. All campers must have
reached that age by the time that camp program begins.
Are t-shirts
included? Campers who attend 2x2’s or 2x3’s Camp will receive a
t-shirt and a name button.
Will there be
a snack? No, the program is only an hour long.
Will my child
see animals up close? Each day campers will have the opportunity
for an up close encounter with several of our education animals
(chinchilla, snake, etc.). During this time, Educators also use
biofacts that the children may touch (shells, pelts, bones, etc.)
and pictures to enrich their experience.
Can I
register my child for more than one session? No, because the
sessions are repeated.
Can I go to
class with my child? Yes, you are required to attend this class
with your child. Due to limited classroom space, only one adult
needs to attend. Additional adults will be charged $10 to attend.
Where do I go
when I arrive at the Zoo? On the first day of camp, you will be
directed to where your group will meet each day.
Zooper Kids
What does a typical camp day include?

child has allergies or other health concerns? When registering
for camp, there is a space for you to tell us if your child has any
health issues or special needs that we should know about. If your
child requires special care or medicine, you will be required to
fill out a Health Card on the first day of camp.
Will the Zoo
accommodate children with special needs? Yes, we will
accommodate campers with special needs. The Zoo is wheelchair
accessible. In order to make the child’s camp experience as positive
as possible, please call the Education Department to speak with the
coordinator about your child’s needs. This will ensure that we are
fully prepared for the accommodation. If your child cannot use the
restroom by him/herself, a parent or guardian must stay with the
child during camp. Please note that the zoo does not employ specific
individuals certified and trained to handle special needs.
Are t-shirts
included? Campers who attend Zooper Kids Camp will receive a
t-shirt and a name button.
Will there be
a snack? We supply a morning snack for the campers. The snack
will include chopped fresh fruit, such as apples, oranges, pears and
bananas. Campers may pack their own snack to be eaten during this
time if needed. Ice water is always available to the campers.
Will my child
see animals up close? Each day campers will have the opportunity
for an up close encounter with several of our education animals
(chinchilla, snake, etc.). During this time, Educators also use
biofacts that the children may touch (shells, pelts, bones, etc.)
and pictures to enrich their experience.
Can I
register my child for more than one week of camp? Because of
limited space, we ask that you register your child for no more than
two weeks of our summer camp programs.
What if there
is bad weather? Camp goes on rain or shine. We will seek shelter
in the event of a storm.
Can I go to
class with my child? No, this a child only program. This is the
first opportunity for children to experience a Zoo camp. If you
don’t feel comfortable sending your child by himself/herself you
can try one of our family programs.
Where do I
drop off/pick up my child? On the first day of camp, you will be
directed to your child’s Camp Educator on the front plaza. You will
drop off and pick up your child at the same location each day. The
adult dropping off the camper must sign his/her name and write down
the name of the adult who will be picking up the camper at the end
of the day. If the pick-up person is different, he/she will need to
show identification to pick up the camper. If there happens to be a
change in plans and another person must pick up your child make sure
the Zoo is notified. We will not allow your child to go home with
another person without your permission.
What do I do
if I need to pick up my child early? Zoo staff must be notified
in advance that early pick up is needed. Adults picking up children
will need to park and walk to the MetaZoo Education Center to
sign-out early pick up campers. Adults will also need picture
identification to pickup any Zoo campers.
Safari Day Camp
What does a typical camp day include?

(full day camp only)

Do campers
need to bring a lunch? For full day camp, campers MUST bring
their own lunch and drink with them from home. Lunches will be
refrigerated. Campers may not purchase a lunch on Zoo grounds.

cancellation and Refund Policy
- Individuals who wish to cancel their registration in any class must
notify the Education Department, in writing, no less than one week
prior to the actual date of the class. We will refund 80% of the
class fee upon receipt of a written or email (danita.robbins@louisvilleky.gov) cancellation.
There will be no refunds for cancellations made less than one week
prior to class date.
- The
Education Department reserves the right to cancel classes with
insufficient registration.
- There
will be a $10 service charge for any changes in the original
registration.
- Pre-registration is required for all classes.
Registration
Information
Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis and camps
fill quickly. Pre-registration is required for all classes.
- Online registrations through
our eTicket Store are available unless otherwise
noted. Only credit card payments accepted. Confirmations are automatically
emailed with your ticket.
Please be sure to
"view and print" your eTickets.
- For mail in registrations,
download a Spring Registration
Form. Payments must be
received with the registration form at least two weeks to the preferred session.
Confirmations will be mailed to you. Please make your check payable to the
Louisville Zoo.
- Reservations will not be taken over the phone.
