at the Louisville Zoo
 

Daisies (K/1st)
“A Trip to Glacier Run”

January 21, 2012, 12:30-2:30

Daisies will take a trip through the “town” of Glacier Run, the Louisville Zoo’s newest exhibit. No need to pack a suitcase, but be prepared for a Girl Scout journey and learn about the animals that live in Glacier Run. All Daisies will receive a participation patch.

Cost: $10/girl, $8/adult  (There are no discounts for Zoo members.)

Brownies (2nd/3rd)
“Wonders of Glacier Run”

February 4, 2012, 12:30-2:30

During this program, Brownies will explore Glacier Run, the Louisville Zoo’s newest exhibit. Through hands-on activities and presentations, Brownies will learn how these animals are dependent on the cool waters of the Arctic. Brownies will receive a participation patch.

Cost: $10/girl, $8/adult  (There are no discounts for Zoo members.)

Juniors (4th/5th)
“The Power of Glacier Run”

February 25, 2012, 12:30-3:30

Juniors will explore the message behind Glacier Run, the Louisville Zoo’s newest exhibit. While studying the effects of climate change on the Arctic and its animals, Juniors will learn how to become “Agents of Change.” All Juniors will receive a participation patch.

Cost: $12/girl, $8/adult  (There are no discounts for Zoo members.)

Seniors and Ambassadors
"Polar Bears and People Who Care!”

December 3, 12:30 -3:30 p.m.

Join us for your Global Justice Journey at the Louisville Zoo, where together we will explore the fascinating life of polar bears! Through interaction-based activities you will learn about their natural history, how global warming is affecting their ecosystem and populations, and our Zoo’s conservation efforts. We will work together to think about personal choices and projects that can help save this amazing species! This program will take place in our new Glacier Run exhibit classroom. A participation patch will be earned by each girl.

Cost: $12.00/Girl and $8.00/Adult  (No discounts for Zoo members)

Cadettes and Seniors
“Food, Glorious Food!”

January 7, 2012  12:30 - 3:30 p.m.

All people and animals need to eat, so let’s talk FOOD! Did you know we serve our Zoo animals  some really interesting things, including fruit, fish, crickets and even blood? Food is such a crucial resource for us all. Come explore what different animals need to eat in order to stay healthy, and how our personal food choices actually impact wildlife! This Journey is sure to be a cool experience that includes a trip to our animal commissary where the diets are prepared—no tasting, please! You will also earn a participant patch.

Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors
 “Zoo Careers and Animal Conservation”

March 10, 2012  12:30 - 3:30 p.m.

Did you ever think about working at a zoo? There are very important purposes for Zoos, and many careers are required to operate an accredited Zoo, like the Louisville Zoo. Join us for an afternoon Journey at the Louisville Zoo as we explore together how zoos are leaders in conservation, and all the professions that the employees at our Zoo are so passionate about, and how you can be a leader in conservation as well! You will get an inside look at the Zoo, meet employees, and earn a participation patch.

Cost: $12/Girl and $8/Adult  (No discounts for Zoo members)

AT THE LOUISVILLE ZOO

Need some help with environmental, nature or animal based Badge or Patch requirements?  Perhaps you would just like to have a fun and educational troop meeting here at the Zoo. We offer an array of programs and activities for Scouts of all ages. Program opportunities vary according to age, individual needs and size of the group.

 

Call (502) 238-5358 or email Danita.Robbins@louisvilleky.gov for more information or to schedule a program for your troop. If you want to bring your troop to the zoo for a self-guided visit without any special programs, you may download a Self-Guided Registration Form by clicking here.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

  1. Individuals who wish to cancel their registration in any class must notify the Education Department, in writing, no less than one week prior to the actual date of the class. We will refund 80% of the class fee upon receipt of a written or email (danita.robbins@louisvilleky.gov) cancellation.
    There will be no refunds for cancellations made less than one week prior to class date.
  2. The Education Department reserves the right to cancel classes with insufficient registration.
  3. There will be a $10 service charge for any changes in the original registration.
  4. Pre-registration is required for all classes.

Registration Information

Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis and programs fill quickly. Pre-registration is required for all programs.

  1. Click here for a Registration form. Please fill out and mail or fax to the Zoo. Instructions are listed on the form. (Girl scout classes are not available for on-line purchase.)
  2. Payments must be received with the registration form at least two weeks to the preferred session. Confirmations will be mailed to you. Please make your check payable to the Louisville Zoo.
