Happy 3rd Birthday, Scotty!
African elephant Scotty to
celebrate at the Louisville Zoo March 13
Baby
African elephant Scotty will be celebrating his 3rd birthday at
the Louisville Zoo on Saturday, March 13.
Birthday festivities begin at 11 a.m.
when the elephant staff will weigh and measure Scotty. Then
Scotty (along with mom Mikki and aunt Punch) will demonstrate
some of his training to the public.
After that, Scotty will be given a
special elephant birthday cake and gift.
Other Zoo animals will also be
celebrating the momentous occasion at various times throughout
the day with special animal enrichment. (Check signage on the
front plaza on March 13 for animal enrichment times and
locations.)
Scotty Background
Scotty was born March 18, 2007, at 8:45
p.m. at the Louisville Zoo. At birth, he weighed in at 285
pounds and was 37.5 inches tall. He is the first elephant born
in Kentucky and the Zoo’s 40-year history.
Some of his favorite activities are
swimming and playing with his big boomer ball (a beige, hard
plastic ball about the size of a big beach ball). His keepers
say he is a typical boy, so he also enjoys getting dirty and
rolling in mud holes.
