Party for the Planet: A Month-Long Celebration of the Earth

E.ON U.S. presents variety of special events throughout the month of April at the Louisville Zoo

E.ON U.S. presents Party for the Planet: A Month-long Celebration of the Earth at the Louisville Zoo in April.

We are so excited about our planet and doing things to help the environment that we’re celebrating Earth Day — all month long!

Each weekday visitors can enjoy the many keeper presentations and animal encounters that we offer, and every weekend will be filled with scavenger hunts and special activities like:

Saturday, April 3 – Special Party for the Planet Event (1-4 p.m.)

Visit with folks from the Louisville Nature Center from 1-4 p.m. to learn about all their camps, classes and programs. They will also be offering their popular rain barrels for sale for $60 — that’s a $10 dollar discount on the regular price. 

Sunday, April 4 - Eggstravaganza featuring the Easter Bunny (11a.m.-4 p.m.)

Visit the Zoo to celebrate Easter with some of our EGGstraordinary egg-laying animals. Be sure to pick up your scavenger hunt sheet as you enter the Zoo. The Easter Bunny will be here to meet and greet visitors in Zoo Vision, so bring your cameras to take some great family photos!

Saturday, April 10 – Climate Change Activities (11a.m.-4 p.m.)  

The Louisville Science Center will host activities that explore the environmental implications of climate change for the Ohio River Valley.

Saturday, April 10 – Zoo Poopy Doo Sale (8 a.m.-12 p.m.)

You can purchase quality hardwood bark mulch and Zoo Poopy Doo, a rich compost mixture comprised of Zoo hoof stock manure (like elephant, rhino, camel and giraffe), hay, straw and wood shavings. Sunday, April 11 –Bat Awareness Day featuring Stellaluna (11a.m.-4 p.m.)

Guests will have a chance to meet and greet bat character Stellaluna during this event day which also features keeper talks and animal enrichment activities all centered around bats.

Saturday, April 17 – E-cycling with Bluegrass E-cycle (11 a.m.-4 p.m.)

Bluegrass E-cycle will be on hand accepting consumer electronic products for recycling. This recycling program will take place in the Zoo’s bus parking lot. They will also be doing onsite hard-drive destruction.

Saturday, April 17 – Zoo Poopy Doo Sale (8 a.m.-12 p.m.)

Sunday, April 18 – Primate Awareness Day featuring Curious George (11 a.m.-4 p.m.)

Guests will have a chance to meet and greet Curious George during this event day which also features keeper talks and animal enrichment activities all centered around primates.

Saturday, April 24 – Paper Shredding Day with DDC of Kentucky (11a.m.-4 p.m.)

DDC of Kentucky will be shredding papers, folders, IDs, credit cards, discs and more. All of the shredded paper or materials will be then be recycled to reduce the amount of raw materials needed to make new products as well as reduce the amount of products in landfills. This recycling program will take place in the Zoo’s bus parking lot.

Sunday, April 25– Earth Day Festival (Eco-partner displays 10 a.m.-2 p.m.)

Special discount admission is just $2 per person all day, courtesy of E.ON U.S.

This event is the conclusion of E.ON U.S.’s Party for the Planet: A Month-long Celebration of the Earth. Special discount admission is just $2 per person all day, courtesy of E.ON U.S.!

You can learn about the Zoo’s conservation efforts and visit environmental displays by some of our eco- partners at four stations setup throughout the Zoo from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The first 1,000 guests to bring in an old cell phone to donate to the Zoo’s cell phone recycling program will receive a FREE “I Helped Save Gorillas” cloth tote bag from E.ON U.S. and ECO-CELL, the Zoo’s partner in cell phone recycling. A limited number of the tote bags will also be available for sale for $5 each with proceeds benefiting the Zoo’s conservation fund.
