Visit the Norton Healthcare
Get Healthy Walking Expo at the Louisville Zoo May 22

 

Are you ready to get serious about getting healthy? Come to the Louisville Zoo and find out how at the annual Norton Healthcare Get Healthy Walking Expo, Saturday, May 22, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Zoo entrance.

Admission to the Zoo and expo on May 22 is free for Get Healthy Walking Club and Norton Prime Time members who register by May 10, and $5 for those who join or register after that. Join either club and register for the expo by calling (502) 629-1234. Regular Zoo admission applies for non-club members.

Norton Healthcare will offer several free health screenings, including blood pressure checks, blood glucose readings, bone density screenings, facial sun exposure screenings, skin cancer screenings and stroke risk assessments. Appointments are required for skin cancer screenings. Call (502) 629-1234 to schedule an appointment. No preregistration is required for the other screenings.

Cholesterol screenings also will be offered for $25 for Get Healthy Walking Club members. Preregistration is required and individuals must not eat or drink for eight hours before the cholesterol screening to ensure accurate results. Call (502) 629-1234 for an appointment.

The expo will include a free cooking demonstration by Sullivan University, an exercise demonstration by TNT Fitness Training, and a group fitness walk lead by Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training.

Exhibitors participating in the Get Healthy Walking Expo include Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training, Swag’s Sport Shoes, Elder Care 4 Families, Wolter Chiropractic, Costco and YMCA.

The Norton Healthcare Get Healthy Walking Club is a free program that promotes walking and healthy lifestyles. As a partner, the Louisville Zoo offers safe and invigorating walking privileges during the year as well as other benefits, including:

  • Walking club members (as well as Zoo members) can walk the Louisville Zoo from 8 to 9:30 a.m. every day except Sunday, March through October; and during twilight hours 5 to 7 p.m. (exit by 8 p.m.) Thursdays and Fridays in June and July. Members must show their Walking Club card (or membership ID) for entry.

  • $5 admission on any adult guests accompanying a Walking Club member on the walks during twilight hours only

  • $5 off any new Louisville Zoo membership for Walking Club members

  • Norton Healthcare also provides:

  • A free Best Foot Forward Kit, which includes a Get Healthy Walking Club card, T-shirt, wrist pack, walking log, pedometer and walking maps

  • Route and distance information for walking at the Zoo with 1.1 miles of hard surface walkways with both flat and hilly terrain. (Signs also provide health tips and keep walkers on track.)

  • Invitations to club activities, including fitness presentations and screenings

  • Free subscription to Get Healthy Magazine
