FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Zoo Poopy Doo!

April showers (and the Zoo’s mulch and compost) bring May flowers

Gardeners, growers and green thumbs—mark April 2, 9 and 16 on your calendars. Zoo Poopy Doo is back at the Louisville Zoo with the most exotic blend of compost in the city!

These ZooPoopyDoo Sales days are part of Party for the Planet: A Month-Long Celebration of the Earth, powered by LG&E and KU.

You can purchase quality hardwood bark mulch and Zoo Poopy Doo (which is made especially by our animals at the Zoo) from 7:30 to 11 a.m. April 2, 9 and 16. Zoo Poopy Doo is a rich compost mixture comprised of Zoo hoof stock manure (like elephant, rhino, camel and giraffe), hay, straw and wood shavings.

Park near the flagpole and make your purchases at the ticket windows (in front of the Zoo entrance gates) then collect your mulch or compost in the second tier of the bus parking lot.

Limited Quantities available

Mulch        $25 per load for small pick-up truck*
$45 per load for medium to full size pick-up truck*

Compost  $35 per scoop (a little less than a cubic yard)

* Note: Trucks and trailers with open beds only. We are not able to load vehicles with toppers, lids or other covers.

Compost improves the aeration of the soil, reduces compaction and adds important micronutrients that do not normally come with most fertilizers. Mulch helps reduce weeds and retains moisture. Whether you choose to till your gardens or top-dress your landscape beds—compost and mulch will give your plants a healthy boost. Proof of the effectiveness of these two products is evident from all the healthy botanicals at the Zoo.

Please check www.louisvillezoo.org for details later this year on when the next Zoo Poopy Doo sale will be in addition to more information about other Party for the Planet activities.

Additional support provided by Waste Management.
