Zoo Announces First New Year’s Eve Overnight
Camp
Kids can get in on some New Year’s Eve fun in a
wild way this year when the Louisville Zoo hosts the first-ever “New
Year’s Eve Snooze” overnight camp. Youth ages eight to 12 can ring in
the New Year with animal-themed activities and games while parents
celebrate the turning of the New Year their own way. The overnight party
that begins New Year’s Eve at 7 p.m. will also include a night walk
around the Zoo before midnight and then the big countdown with party
hats and streamers. Then the following morning the kids will kick-off
2012 with a morning walk before their parents pick them up by 10 a.m. on
New Year’s Day.
New Year’s Eve Snooze is $90 per person or $75
for members. The cost includes a pizza dinner, party favors, a late
night snack, breakfast and a t-shirt.
Registration for the New Year’s camp or any of
the winter camps set below can be done online at the Zoo’s eTicket
store. More information can be found at www.louisvillezoo.org. Only
credit card payments will be accepted. Confirmations are automatically
emailed with the ticket. Reservations will not be taken over the phone.
MORE WINTER CAMPS
ZOOper Kids Holiday Camp (Ages 4-5) /December 19,
(9 – 11:45 a.m.)/Cost: Regular $35; Members $25
Campers will enjoy a Zoo walk, craft, and a
“hands-on” visit with education animals. A healthy snack will be
provided.
Holiday Camp (Ages
6-12) / Cost: Regular $55; Members $40
This all day program
will be packed with activities including animal study, crafts, a
“hands-on” visit with Education animals and a snack. Children should
bring a sack lunch with a drink. Children will be grouped according to
age.
Session 1: Monday,
December 19, (9 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
Session 2: Tuesday,
December 20, (9 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.)
Session 3: Tuesday,

Teen Holiday Camp
(Ages 13 – 15)/ December 20, (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.)/ Cost: Regular $55;
Members $40
This daylong program
will provide teens with a unique experience at the Louisville Zoo. Teens
will explore how our Zoo cares for the many endangered animals that live
here, as well as conservation projects in the wild. Participants need to
bring a lunch and drink, and dress for the weather.
Two by Two: Warm
Fuzzies (Two-year-old and an adult) / January 14, (9–10 a.m.)
Cost for one adult &
one child: Regular $25; Members $20 (additional adults $10 each)
This playful,
one-hour class includes circle time, learning stations and a special
animal guest before heading out on a guided walking tour of part of the
Zoo. This is an introductory class for parents and two-year-olds to
explore fuzzy animals and how they stay warm in the winter.
Two by Three: Winter
Homes (Three-year-old and an adult)/ January 14, (11 a.m.–Noon)
Cost for one adult &
one child: Regular $25; Members $20 (additional adults $10 each)
This one-hour class
includes circle time, learning stations and a special animal guest
before heading out on a guided walking tour of part of the Zoo. Parents
and children will be able to team together and investigate how animals
deal with the harsh winter climate. Children will explore the winter
homes of many different animals.
ZOOper Kids: Wild
Winter Animals (Ages 4-5) January 14 (1–2:30 p.m.)
Cost: Regular $20;
Members $15
This program
includes a guided Zoo walk, “hands-on” activities, closely supervised
contact with education program animals and lots of information about
animals to satisfy the curiosity of young minds. Bears bulk up,
squirrels stock up and others hibernate. Kids will learn just what
Kentucky animals do to cope with the winter months. This program is for
children only.
Family Programs
This program is
designed for families with children four years old and up to learn about
the world we live in. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Sunset Safari:
Inuit Wonderland / December 9, (6:30 – 8:30 p.m.)
Cost:
(Individual): Regular $15; Members $10 / (Family of 4): Regular
$50; Member $35
Frolic and play
the Inuit way as families enjoy cookies and cocoa while engaging in
fun activities/crafts based upon Inuit culture and the centuries-old
relationship between the people and animals of the arctic.
Breakfast with the
Orangutans /February 18, (8:30 – 10 a.m.)
Cost:
(Individual): Regular $20; Members $15 /(Family of 4): Regular $70;
Members $50 / (additional participants $10 each)
Families will be
able to explore the world of orangutans while dining. A simple
continental breakfast will be served while the orangutans eat their
breakfast too. A keeper will join the group and share information
about orangutan behavior and what it is like to work with these
intelligent animals!
Breakfast with the
Bears/ March 10, (8:30–10 a.m.)
Cost:
(Individual): Regular $20; Members $15/ (Family of 4): Regular $70;
Members $50
(additional participants $10 each)
Kids are
encouraged to bring their own Teddy Bear for this class, where they
will learn about polar and grizzly bears. Hands-on activities will
take place along with a simple continental breakfast served in the
new classroom in Glacier Run.
