FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Zoo Offers Unique Way to Say
“Be Mine”
This Valentine’s Day the Louisville Zoo has a unique way to send a
special message to loved ones and to help make a difference all at once.
Now through February 10 you can save $15 on a special Valentine’s
message package through the A.D.O.P.T.S. (Animals Depend on People To
Survive) program. A.D.O.P.T.S. participants partner with the Zoo in the
care of the animals by “adopting” an animal of their choice for a full
year. Funds received from the “adoptions” go directly toward the care
and feeding of the amazing creatures in our care. The Louisville Zoo
food budget for the animals is over $400,000 annually and as nutrition
is a top priority this includes the highest grades of meat and the
freshest of produce, along with hundreds of pounds of fish and other
seafood. As the Zoo’s collection grows, so does the food budget. Triton
(21 year-old male California Sea lion) alone can eat nearly 50 pounds of
fish a day.
The Lovebird
Package $60.00 (regularly $75) includes an animal adoption
certificate, a picture of the selected animal, the adoptive parent’s
name on the Zoo website and a plush animal from the Zoo gift shop.
Animals with special Valentine’s Day messaging
include the following:
Grizzly Bear - “I can’t bear to be without
you!”
Brazilian Ocelot - “I love you an
