Pledge for the Polar Bears

I pledge to help stop climate change by making the following changes that will reduce my personal carbon emissions.  I understand that I can make a difference! (If your company or group wants to make a pledge, please email us for more information: dinowriter@insightbb.com)

Check off the box next to each of the Pledges you wish to make!

Save 100 lbs. of carbon emissions per year.

Pledge # 1

Turn up the thermostat 2 degrees when
cooling your house, and turn down the
thermostat 2 degrees when heating your house.

Heating and cooling your house can account for up to 45% of your total energy bill.  So put on your sweater in the winter, and turn on the fans in the summer.  You might not even notice the difference that 2 degrees can make – and you’ll also be saving money!

Save 400 lbs. of carbon emissions per year.

Pledge # 2

Unplug computers and electronic
devices when not in use.

In an average home, the many TVs, DVD players, VCRs and computers use a lot of electricity - even when they’re turned off.  For example, 25% of the energy a TV uses is consumed when it’s not even on.

Save 500 lbs. carbon emissions per year.

Pledge # 3

Replace 5 of your most used 75-watt
incandescent light bulbs with fluorescent bulbs.

Fluorescent bulbs use 70% less electricity to provide the same amount of light – you could save around $65 per year on your energy bill by changing out 5 bulbs.  If everyone in the U.S. replaced just one light bulb, it would be like taking 1 million cars off the road.

Save 600 lbs. of carbon emissions per year.

Pledge # 4

Wash 2 loads of laundry per week
in cold water instead of hot.

Washing clothes in hot water uses as much electricity as leaving your refrigerator door open all day!  In fact, 85 to 90% of the energy used by a washing machine is for heating the water.

Save 1,000 lbs. of carbon emissions per year.

Pledge # 5

Reduce your driving speed to
55 mph on the highway

You can save 20% or more on your fuel costs by driving a little slower.  And it is also safer!
